IRCってなんですか？→解答
IRCというのは、一言で言うと、インターネットを利用したチャット専用システムです。いわゆるIEやネスケなどのWebページ閲覧ソフトではなく、チャット専用のソフトを使用し、チャット専用のサーバに接続してチャットをします。サーバに接続した人たちは、いくつもに分かれた会話の場のどこかに参加して会話を行います。

IRCの特徴

軽くて速い
速さはWebでのチャットの比ではありません。Webチャットは会話のログをいちいちリロードしていますが、IRCではメッセージが直接送られてくるため、この手間がありません。IRCを1度体験すると、Webのチャットはもうチャットとは思えなくなります。また、IRC用のソフト自体も、Web閲覧ソフトなどより軽いものです。
Macintosh、Windows、OS/2、UNIXなどほとんどのOSで利用できる
システムやユーザーを選ばないというのは1つの優れた特徴です。モバイル機はもちろん、ドリームキャストからもできたりします。もちろん、違うOS、違うソフト同士でも問題なく会話できます。
